Malaika Arora’s Sweeney Bombay is redefining the idea of comfort food
The restaurant’s thoughtful menu blends Thai warmth and European rusticity into a dining experience that feels personal and inviting

Mumbai’s dining scene has never been short on glamour. But every once in a while, a restaurant arrives that feels less like a launch and more like an emotion. That is the space Sweeney Bombay occupies.
Opened in Khar by Malaika Arora and restaurateur Dhaval Udeshi, Sweeney is redefining comfort food by looking inward instead of outward. Rather than building a menu around trends, the restaurant draws from memories, travels, home kitchens and recipes that have been passed around dining tables instead of culinary schools.
Food inspired by travel, memory and real kitchens
The restaurant’s culinary philosophy is deeply research driven. Instead of replicating fine-dining interpretations of global cuisine, the founders reportedly spent time revisiting home kitchens, observing how people cook in their everyday lives.
The result is a menu that feels deeply personal. The Thai influence spans both southern and northern styles — from coconut-rich curries to lighter herb-forward dishes — while the European side embraces rustic comfort cooking with slow sauces, handmade pastas, and warming flavours. Some of the dishes gaining attention include:
- Chimichurri prawn risotto
- Steamed fish in Thai chilli basil
- Pad Thai with tamarind and smoky wok flavours
- Handmade comforting pastas
- Mango sticky rice-inspired desserts
Standout dishes from the restaurant
Truffle honey feta parcels
Sweet, savoury and crisp in every bite, these parcels combine creamy feta with earthy truffle notes and honey for a dish that feels luxurious without being too heavy.
Thai Curry
One of the standout mains on the menu, the Thai Curry delivers exactly what Sweeney promises — balanced, comforting flavours inspired by authentic Thai home cooking. Expect fragrant herbs, creamy textures and warming spices.
Pad Thai
Known to be a favourite of Malaika Arora, the Pad Thai brings together smoky wok-tossed noodles, crunchy peanuts and the perfect mix of tangy and savoury flavours.
Mango Sticky Rice Crème Brûlée
No meal at Sweeney is complete without this signature dessert. Inspired by classic Thai mango sticky rice, the dish gets a decadent crème brûlée twist with a caramelised top layer that adds the perfect crackle to every spoonful. Mango Sticky Rice is also among the restaurant’s most talked-about dishes online.
