14 Jun 2025

As we raise our glasses to World Gin Day (June 14), it’s only fitting to spotlight a different kind of clear spirit. At the recent GFTR 2025 launch, Six Brothers Mahura, from South Seas Distilleries, who have over a century of legacy in producing this exquisite spirit, served as the official Alcohol experience partner.

Bhanu Mohan Kaila, Director Commercial, South Seas Distilleries, shares why Mahura (also known as Mahua) deserves a spot in every cocktail lover’s lineup and how it’s elevating the heritage alcohol experience.

“This is the only purely flower-based spirit; it's made entirely from Mahura flowers with no additions. It's incredibly versatile, beautifully delicate, and a mainline spirit at 40% ABV. It can be enjoyed in numerous ways.

If I had to explain it to a layperson familiar with other spirits, I'd say it's unlike anything else. Real appreciation comes from consumption; trials are essential. People should be proud to try something authentically Indian.

We produce our Mahura (Mahua) in India's largest copper pot stills, the same used for our exquisite single malts, Crazy Cock – The Single Malt Whisky from India, applying the same scientific rigour. It's an exceptional product. The key is to realise that this is a homegrown spirit, something that belongs to all of us Indians and that should instill a sense of identity and pride. That's why you should try it – the true spirit of India!”

According to the GFTR 2025, heritage alcohols are expected to hit a new high in 2025. The rising popularity of heritage spirits and liqueurs, such as Mahura (Mahua), feni, Toddy, and Kesar Kasturi, is being fueled by easier access, innovative bar programs, generous media coverage and increasingly positive public discourse.

With that momentum behind it, Six Brothers Mahura’s (Mahua) versatile profile makes it the perfect spirit to take you beyond gin. It has a sweet and earthy flavour that is balanced with hints of dried fruits and a touch of spice. The platinum filtration gives it a clean, crisp finish.

Here are four exclusive Six Brothers Mahura (Mahua) cocktails — each designed to showcase its singular character.

Whether you’re at a swanky rooftop bar or celebrating World Gin Day at home, these recipes will elevate your sipping experience.
