As the temperatures exceed the usual summer degrees, one needs to stay protected from the harshness of the weather. While staying indoors and staying hydrated are the way to go, why not rest in the comforting embrace of cooling beverages? Not only do they give you relief, but the properties of some of these summer fruits also keep you energised and healthy!
From fruit lassi’s to aam panna, we have rounded up a range of soothing beverages you can sip on this summer
Kokum juice
Kokum juice is made using the pulp from the fruit, also referred to as Malabar Tamarind. The pulp is ground to a fine consistency, and added to water, along with cumin powder and cardamom. The juice is excellent for detoxification and the fruit actively helps cool down the body. Plus, it replenishes the body fluids and keeps you energised as you head out for the day!
Bel sherbet
Bel fruit or wood apple is high in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. Mash the pulp of the fruit in a bowl, and add some cumin powder, sugar and water. Serve the drink cold, and garnish it with some mint leaves!
Fruit lassi
Blend some chilled Godrej Jersey Curd with some cut pieces of mango, strawberry or banana, depending on whichever is your favourite fruit. You can skip the sugar if the fruits are sweet enough. Enjoy it on a warm afternoon and watch your mood brighten!
Shikanji
A kind of lime juice, this traditional spiced lemonade is made with a plethora of spices such as coriander seeds, peppercorns, cumin seeds and chaat masala. The spices add a twist to the regular lemonade one would usually make. You can also add some club soda if you wish!
Aam Panna
Fruits like mangoes, grapes and watermelon keep our bodies hydrated during the harsh summer months. Aam panna is made with raw mangoes, which are boiled and blended to fine pulp. To this, a mint paste is added. In a glass, add sugar, salt and cumin seeds and take a spoonful of the pulp. Serve aam panna chilled and garnish it with mint leaves! The pulp can also be frozen for use later on!
Lassi’s and other sherbets are the sure fire way of keeping cool this summer
