How safe is your morning glass of milk? What every Indian household must know about milk safety
As we celebrate World Food Safety Day, let’s talk about one of India’s most overlooked essentials — milk

India proudly holds the title of the largest milk producerin the world, contributing nearly 25% of global milk production. From your morning chaito your child’s bedtime glass, milk finds its way into countless recipes and routines across Indian households.
But as we celebrate its nutritional value, it’s equally important to ask: how safe is the milk we consume every day?
On this World Food Safety Day (June 7), let’s turn the spotlight on milk safety — starting at home. According to the Bottoms Up…India Says Cheers to Milk Report:
- 54% of Indians place very high importance on the quality of milk they consume
- 70% are willing to pay more for milk they trust to be safe and pure
- 1 in 2 Indians believe that unbranded milk is often processed unhygienically
Despite being a staple, milk doesn’t always feature in food safety conversations the way packaged or processed foods are. That needs to change.
Let’s commit to prioritising milk safety — by making informed choices, reading labels, and following simple checks at home.
