Delicious dishes you can make with leftover chapattis

Don’t throw away your leftover chapattis, instead repurpose those into interesting dishes

Chapatti is an integral part of our daily meals. However, excess leftover chapattis are frequent in Indian kitchens since people prefer to consume them hot and fresh.

Do you worry about the wastage of leftover chapattis in your kitchen? Worry not, just put them in the refrigerator and create delicious dishes out of them later. As the saying goes, every penny saved is a penny earned. And the same is true for food. On World Savings Day, learn some unique ideas to use up those old chapattis.

Spicy chapatti crackers

Turn this simple recipe into a quick tea-time snack. The spicy crackers are also great for parties when served with some hearty dip.

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Take some oil, black salt, chilli powder, onion powder, and garlic powder in a large bowl and make a smooth mixture. Cut the chapattis into triangular pieces and toss them in the bowl so that they are well coated with the seasoning. Place the seasoned pieces on a baking tray and bake for eight to 10 minutes in the oven. Let them cool completely before serving.

Chapatti ladoo

Did you know that you can also whip up a delicious dessert with your leftover chapatti? Take some clarified butter in a pan and roast some almonds, cashews, and raisins in it till the nuts turn golden brown. Break the leftover chapatti into pieces using your hands and roast them in a pan until they become a little crispy. Let the pieces cool and grind them coarsely with the toasted nuts and raisins. Take a cup of jaggery and a few tablespoons of water in a pan. Dissolve it over low heat and add it to the ground chapattis and nuts mixture. Add some grated khoya and cardamom powder to the mix and roll the mixture into ladoos. Refrigerate and consume the delicious chapatti ladoos.

Chapatti upma

Who says upma can be made only from semolina? Prepare a quick and easy chapatti upma the next time you have leftover chapattis at hand. Chop onions and tear the chapatti into small pieces. Heat some oil in a pan, toss in some mustard seeds, and let them sputter. Add some turmeric, chilli powder, salt, chopped onions, a few curry leaves, and the chapatti pieces to the pan. Mix it all well and cook for a few minutes. You may also add some peas and peanuts to the pan while it cooks. Serve it out on a plate and squeeze some lemon juice for added flavour.

Chapatti quesadillas

Start preparing this crowd-pleasing dish by finely dicing tomatoes and onions. Mix the diced vegetables with salt, hot sauce, and pre-cooked red kidney beans in a large bowl. Heat a pan and put some butter in it. Place a chapatti in the pan and cook it lightly on both sides. Put the filling over the chapatti and add some grated cheese over it. Fold the chapatti so that one half flips over the filling. Press down slightly and cook both sides well. Serve it hot with some tomato salsa or dip on the side.
