Keep the pot boiling with these healthy soups in winter
Soup is an ideal way to help the whole family boost their health – more so in winters. Packed with the goodness of vegetables, chicken and lentils, soups can be made as quick midweek meals to get started on your weight loss regimen. So, whether one is trying to ward away the winter chills or just looking for a healthier alternative, a one-pot meal soup is almost always the remedy.
Spicy lentil soup
Lentil and spices are good winter warmers. For this flavourful soup, you will need to gather some common kitchen spices, any lentils of your choice, chopped onions, tomatoes and sweet potato and Godrej vegetable oil. Lightly saute onions, sweet potatoes and spices, sprinkle some paprika powder, ground coriander and seasonings. Add the lentils and tomatoes and bring to a boil. When the lentils are almost cooked, stir in the chopped coriander, ginger and lemon juice. Serve hot!
Sweet potato and paprika soup
Enjoy this hearty sweet potato and paprika soup as a starter, or a warm dinner on a cold winter's night. For this, you will need smoked paprika, sweet potato, chicken stock and some coconut milk. Roast sweet potato, pepper, onion and garlic in an oven. Add the roasted vegetables into a blender with coconut milk and chicken stock. Whizz until smooth. Pour back into the pan till piping hot. Serve with a slice of loaf bread.
Tomato and lentil soup
When it's cold outside, treat yourself to this healthy vegetable soup, packed with immunity-supporting vitamin C
You will need dried lentils of your choice, diced carrots, sliced celery, tomato purée, fresh thyme leaves (or parsley), garlic cloves and ground coriander. Put all the ingredients into a large pan and stir well. Cover and leave to simmer for 30 minutes until the vegetables and lentils are tender. Pour into a bowl and serve hot!
Chicken noodle soup
A bowl of chicken noodle soup eaten before a meal can help satisfy your hunger longer than solid foods. This cleansing soup is a great plan for weight loss packed with the goodness of chopped fresh ginger, finely chopped garlic, rice or wheat noodles, fresh sweetcorn, thinly sliced mushroom, shredded spring onions, basil leaves and some soy sauce. Add chicken or vegetable stock along with Godrej Real Good Chicken breasts (skinless).
Bring to the boil. Simmer for a few more minutes until the noodles are cooked. Pour into bowls and garnish with basil leaves.
