The convenient comeback

With most of us stuck at home during the pandemic, convenience foods have taken a centre stage

22 Jun 2021

In terms of uncertainty, it’s no secret that people find solace in crave-worthy dishes. And with greater constraints now with many people working from home, consumers tend to look up for ready-to-eat nutritious foods requiring little or no preparation. And with industry-wide innovation underway to provide solutions for ready-to-cook, ready-to-eat and everything in between to support new work-life systems, as predicted by the Godrej Food Trends Report, 2021, convenience food is likely to get more popular along with traditional cooking. So here’s looking at a few convenient choices that are worth including in your meal plan.

Millet based meal mixes

Premixes like idli/dosa, adai maavu, cakes and pancake batters are becoming popular in 2021, and consumers are spoilt for choices. These dishes are filling and quick to make. Toss your freshly prepared idli in the pan with a wee bit of oil, some curry leaves, mustard seeds and a simple masala mix – your spicy and filling Masala Idli is ready in minutes.

Non-fried snacks

From thekua to murukku, traditional Indian snacks like banana chips, faral are now being doorstep-delivered to bring you a taste of home in fancy packages. Doesn’t get more convenient than this, does it?

Nutrition-based snacks

Anytime can be snack time with nutrient-heavy snack options like amla, makhana, hemp, rajma chips, bhakarwadi etc., which are gaining acceptance among fitness-conscious individuals. Dive into the wholesomeness of these munchies that satisfy your hunger while not taking a shot at your health.

Ready-to-cook

Frozen kebabs, samosas, sausages, salami, etc. are great when you need to whip up something quick, but don’t have the time or energy to make it from scratch. Just unpack your kebabs, toss them in the fryer, and get ready to gorge on the juicy succulent goodness. Serve it with quick dips like pudina chutney or nariyal chutney.

Premium snacks

Want to binge snack the right way? It's about time you bin those chips and get on to some real health. Try tasteful and filling gourmet popcorns, crackers and trail mix in between meals. Why premium, you ask? For instance, the kernels are bigger and better in quality in gourmet popcorns. Or how about munching on gourmet crackers – handmade and yummy - that come in various flavours from sunflower seeds to cranberry.
