The way we used to work in the kitchen and even eat food has changed dramatically today. Concerns around consumption, food safety and kitchen hygiene  are at an all-time high, and rightly so. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) recently shared several guidelines on its Twitter handle about the kind of safe food practices one should follow to maintain hand hygiene and even how to eat right. Here’s a look at some of their suggestions:

Effective hand hygiene

It’s important to begin on the right note. And for anyone who cooks or works in a kitchen, it all starts with proper hand hygiene. According to the FSSAI guideline shared on social media, use a hand sanitiser that contains at least 60 percent alcohol to maintain effective hand hygiene, in case you don’t have soap or water.

Add Vitamin C-rich foods to your diet

Include plant-based foods that are rich in Vitamin C to your diet, says the FSSAI. Some examples include amla, lemons, capsicums, papaya and oranges. These not only help strengthen your immunity, but also give you healthier skin.

These are just a few guidelines on safe food practices, which have been shared by the FSSAI. Check out their e-book – ‘Eating Right During COVID-19’ -- which lists out other safety practices to avoid the spread of the virus and ensure adequate nutrition in order to remain healthy.

It’s crucial to follow good hygiene practices now, especially those recommended by a recognised body of authority So follow the FSSAI’s guidelines and help yourself and your loved ones stay safe!
